Please come home. Please come home.
Find the place where your feet know to walk
And follow your own trail home.
What does it mean to come home to ourselves? This is a question I ask myself regularly and one that I love to contemplate with others. This September I will be sharing a two week program in which we will explore this topic of homecoming through various lenses and I invite you to join me. I have always felt that the early autumn season is particularly well suited to this type of work and so we will begin our exploration on Sept 6th 2020 and will run through until Sept 20th, taking us right up to the gates of the autumn equinox.
This program will focus on the topic of seasonal self care and personal ritual as tools for nourishing a sense of inner resiliency. This is a focus I have been working with for over twenty years and so it is in no way new to me, but the relevance of this work has taken on new meaning during this strange and challenging year.
Resilience is defined as the ability to recover quickly from challenge, or to spring back into shape. To be resilient does not mean we will be unaffected by difficulty or immune to stress, it simply means we have tools that we can draw on that help us to move through life's challenges in a healthy way. This will look different for each and every one of us and in this program, I hope to support you in discovering the tools that allow you to feel well resourced and able to meet your life as it is.
Some of the tools we will be working with in this program are -
- mythic story & symbolism
- yoga & somatic movement practices
- meditation / mindfulness
- self reflection
- personal ritual
- seasonal wellness practices
- kitchen medicine
You do not need to have an interest in all of these practices in order to take part in this program, nor do you need to have prior experience with any of these modalities. I have chosen to share the practices that I myself have been using in my own life for the last two decades but I will offer them to you to explore in your own way. If you have questions or concerns about whether or not this program will be suitable for you please reach out to me directly so we can chat.
How will this program be delivered?
This online program will run for two weeks, with new lessons being published on Tuesdays & Thursdays and a live stream workshop on Sundays. The Sunday live stream workshops will take place at 11am PST and will be recorded for later viewing if you cannot make it live.
Each lesson Will include a mix of -
- a short audio/video recording addressing a specific topic related to the general theme of the program
- a pre-recorded movement practice
- a guided meditation
- recipes for autumn cooking and medicine making
- a simple ritual suggestion for personal practice
- journal and reflection questions
- and likely a few more things that are still to be determined
You will also be invited to join a private Facebook group where we can talk about what we are learning and practicing in between lessons. This is where you can ask me questions directly and connect with other students in the program. Joining this group is optional and not at all required to access the program material.
Who is this Program for?
Anyone who has an interest in cultivating personalized practices of self care that support resiliency.
WHAT IS THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THIS Program?
In this program I will be working with the theme of homecoming as a primary metaphor for looking at our practices of personal ritual and self care as various ways in which we can come back home to ourselves. This is a metaphor that I have been working with for many years and I think it can be an especially valuable one to work with during this time of global uncertainty. I will share practices and teachings that I have found to be helpful and supportive in my own life and I will support you in making these practices your own. I want this program to feel like a conversation that you can engage with, taking whatever feels valuable as inspiration and leaving behind anything that does not resonate in your own life at this moment.
What will you learn?
I am going to share a number of different practices and teachings with you, what you take away from them will be unique to you. It is my hope that you will learn the ways in which you can nourish your own sense of inner resiliency & wellness, specific to your life situation at this time.
There are two pricing options available for this program. Full price is $89 CAD , a price which reflects the true value of the course. There are also a limited amount of sliding scale spots at $69 CAD. Please note that if you can afford the full price but choose sliding scale you are potentially taking a spot away from someone else. I ask that you consider this when making your choice.
I am a woman who wears many hats. I identify as student, seeker, and storyteller, mother, mentor and magic maker. I have been teaching yoga and meditation since 2002 and love to support others on the path of self discovery through practices of personal ritual. My lifelong curiosity with nature's rhythms has led me to my studies in Ayurveda, Western herbalism, and various earth based wisdom traditions. I also bring a love of myth and story to my work as I have found symbolism to be a powerful teacher. This dance of seasonal reverence, yogic sadhana, mythic story, and kitchen medicine lie at the heart of all that I share.
Frequently Asked Questions:
When does the course start and finish?
This program begins on Sept 6th 2020 and runs through until Sept 20th 2020.
How long do I have access to the course?
After the course is finished you will have continued access to the material and can join me for free every time I run a new group through the program. In other words by buying the course once you have lifetime access.
I've never done an online course before. What do I need?
What type of yoga /movement will you be teaching?
As a yoga teacher I tend towards a mindful vinyasa approach, which means that the movement practices will often be dynamic in nature - but not fast. Keeping in mind that this is an online program and participants will be coming to practice with varying needs and abilities I will endeavour to make the movement practices as accessible as possible. I am interested in somatic movement practices as an exploration of embodiment rather than the performance of specific shapes or forms and will do my best to support you in this exploration using the tools at my disposal. This means that the movement practices will include enough guided instruction to help you feel supported along with the invitation to modify, adjust or express each movement in your own unique way.
